Tennis Shoes
It is easy to forget the importance of a good pair of tennis shoes.
In fact, a suitable pair of tennis shoes is absolutely essential for comfortable play; see them as the foundation on which your game is built from.
As with everything in tennis, the exact type of shoe you should select depends on the type of surface you will be playing on. You may think there is very little difference, but each surface does need a slightly different type of shoe to gain the maximum performance.
All tennis shoes are built with cushioning in different areas from most sport shoes, to allow for the stop-start nature of tennis. Tennis shoes differ from running or walking shoes as they focus support on a side-to-side and toe impact, rather than the standard heal-to-toe walking or running movement.
The main difference in tennis shoes between the surfaces is the sole. When playing on clay, a semi smooth sole will help movement across the clay. Grass surfaces need an aggressive, abrasive sole to avoid excess slipping. A tennis shoe for hard surfaces should have a mixture of the two, with by smoothness and grip.
